Tattoo Aftercare That Keeps Your Ink Looking Its Best
Follow these simple steps to heal safely, avoid infection, and keep your tattoo vibrant for years to come.
Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Proper tattoo aftercare is essential for ensuring your tattoo heals beautifully and lasts a lifetime. Follow these steps carefully

First 48 Hours
  • Avoid alcohol and cannabis for at least 48 hours before and after your appointment — these can thin your blood and interfere with healing.
  • Leave the second skin (Saniderm or similar) on for up to 3 days, unless it fills with too much plasma or fluid. If that happens, remove it early and follow cleaning instructions.
  • Do not scratch, peel, or poke the second skin.
Removing Second Skin (Day 3 or sooner)
  1. Gently remove the bandage under warm running water to loosen the adhesive.
  2. Wash the tattoo with a fragrance-free, gentle antibacterial soap using clean hands.
  3. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry in a clean environment.
  4. Let the tattoo breathe for 10–15 minutes before applying any product.
  5. Apply a thin layer of a recommended healing ointment. Do not over apply — a thin layer is enough.
Daily Care (Days 3–30)
  • Wash and moisturize your tattoo 2–3 times a day.
  • If you’re at work/school without access to water, you may use fragrance-free, alcoholfree wipes to gently clean your tattoo before applying healing cream.
  • Continue using healing ointment until scabbing is gone and the tattoo begins to flake.
  • Once flaking ends, switch to a fragrance-free moisturizing lotion (like Aveeno, Lubriderm, or CeraVe).
Long-Term Care
  • Avoid swimming, hot tubs, saunas, and direct soaking for at least 2–3 weeks.
  • Do not expose your healing tattoo to sun or tanning beds.
  • Once healed, apply SPF 30+ sunscreen to prevent fading.
  • Keep skin hydrated to maintain the vibrancy of your tattoo.
F.A.Q

Initial healing takes 1–2 weeks, but full skin regeneration can take up to 2 months depending on size, placement, and your personal healing process.

It’s best to avoid intense physical activity and excessive sweating for at least 3–5 days, especially if your tattoo is in a spot that gets rubbed by clothing or gym equipment.

We recommend using a tattoo-specific product that you can purchase at our studio. Avoid petroleum jelly, heavily scented lotions, or alcohol-based creams.

Yes! Peeling is a normal part of the healing process. Do not pick or scratch the flakes, as this can cause scarring or ink loss.

No. Second skin should only be applied once directly after the tattoo is done. After removal, follow traditional aftercare steps.

Yes. Itching can happen as the skin heals. Avoid scratching — tap lightly or apply moisturizer to relieve discomfort.

Both can thin your blood and impair healing, increasing the chance of scabbing, slower recovery, or infection.

No. You should stop using plastic wrap or occlusive coverings after 36 hours. Your tattoo needs air to heal properly.

If your second skin comes off earlier than expected, don’t worry. Simply gently peel off any remaining film and begin your regular aftercare routine. It’s important to keep the tattoo clean, moisturized, and protected as it heals.
